Poll: How Would You Like Drinkhacker’s Home Page to Look?

Quick question for regular readers.

We’ve long put full stories and images on the home page, and I’m concerned that this may just be a bit too much to digest, and that it may be burying content down the page that people would like to see more easily. So I’m taking a poll:

Would you prefer the site to A) stay the way it is or B) change to a new design where the home page provides a digest of many posts (just the first paragraph, perhaps), and you have to click the post title to read more.

Vote here or leave a comment on Facebook, thanks!

I read the site on RSS, so I don’t have a preference about what you ask per se. But I hope you’ll keep the RSS feed configured to show the whole article rather than just a “tease”. (I’m not sure whether this is compatible with both of your options A and B.)

Thanks Sam — I don’t plan on mucking with the RSS either way.

I’m partial to untruncated reads – option A. It just feels like more of a hassle to have to click through then click back for every article.

Christopher, this is something you could (and should) test. You could try it one way for a few days and see if your homepage bounce rates improves. You could also live a/b testing using Google Optimizer.

I really enjoy the design as is. I also come directly from the RSS.

I am with Sam. I very much enjoy the full RSS feeds and wouldn’t want a tease.

I say leave it as is (I don’t deal with RSS). It’s not like the posts are super long anyway, and I find opening a bunch of tabs (which is what I would do if you made it first paragraph only) to be kinda a pain in the ass. But either way, not a huge deal.

I check the page nearly every day and prefer it just the way it is.

As is. I like being able to scroll through the posts – sometimes I end up reading a post that I’d normally skip if I didn’t see the whole post.

    Option A

I much prefer the article presentation as-is. It makes for a much smoother read-through, even when digging through older articles, and allows me to catch parts of articles I otherwise would have skipped past that happen to interest me. So, in short, Option A.

    Long-time reader here. I vote option A!

Been reading a few years. Option A as well. I check the site every few days, and it’s nice to be able to scroll through and read the new articles in one swoop.

    Option A

Leave it the way it is please
