Review: 2021 Beringer Chardonnay Private Reserve

Review: 2021 Beringer Chardonnay Private Reserve

We got a little backwards in our review of Beringer’s chardonnay: Rob already covered the 2022 expression of this wine. Now we’re turning around and looking at the 2021, which you should still be able to find on the market alongside the 2022.

For this round, a healthy slug of oak and vanilla up front is prelude for a wine that eventually explores the breadth of the orchard: mangoes, lemon curd, gooseberries, and red apples — and with time, a more insistent note of orange blossoms. A crowd-pleaser for fans of the California style, the layers of wood and vanilla custard on the finish give the wine plenty of body to help it stand on its own even when paired with heartier fare.
