Review: Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey Eggnog
If you’re a fan of eggnog, you may know how difficult it can be to find a quality, boozy premade version. Between consistency and viscosity issues, and chemical flavors, the hunt for a great whiskey-based eggnog is rough. Eggnog is not to be confused with bourbon cream, which is bourbon mixed with cream, a sweetener, and sometimes vanilla extract. Eggnog is a different bird.
Eggnog, historically known as a milk punch or an egg milk punch when spirits are added, is a rich, chilled, sweetened, dairy-based beverage. Traditionally made with milk or heavy cream, sugar, egg yolks, nutmeg, and whipped egg whites, which give it a frothy texture and its name. A distilled spirit such as brandy, rum, or whiskey is a key ingredient to add — otherwise what you are even drinking? For me, the ideal product is whiskey-based, shelf stable, light in texture, and full of natural flavors. Having yet to find a product that is accessible to me that fits the bill I am often forced to make it myself and struggle to keep up at holiday gatherings because it turns out great. Even if you don’t think you love a good boozy eggnog, you do! So my hunt continued until recently, when a new-to-me eggnog came across my table.
The folks at Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey have seemed to unlock the formula to a super tasty eggnog with a bonus: peanut butter. If you’re one to turn your nose up at a Skrewball product, keep reading and you might just get won over.
The brand states that “Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey Eggnog is a luxurious, ready-to-serve holiday beverage crafted with 100% real dairy cream and the rich, nutty flavor of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. This creamy, indulgent drink combines the festive flavors of traditional eggnog with the distinctive sweetness of peanut butter whiskey, making it a perfect treat for holiday gatherings. Serve chilled over ice and garnish with a sprinkle of nutmeg or a cinnamon stick for an extra festive touch.”
Skrewball delivers on the promise of providing rich and nutty flavor with the right amount of spice, medium sweetness, and a perfect velvety texture. As a lower proof drink, pouring this eggnog over ice is a pleasure on its own. The real magic of the eggnog comes from the peanut butter. It brings a cool flavor that gets better with every sip. The mix of nutty goodness, sweet creaminess, and a touch of baking spices makes it all come together perfectly. If you’re feeling extra festive, add an ounce of whiskey to the eggnog over ice, and top it with a bit of nutmeg. It’s a delicious cocktail that takes about a minute to craft.
This eggnog may not be Grandma’s historic recipe, but it will undoubtedly satisfy your cravings and keep you wonderfully warm throughout the holidays.
