Review: Enroot Cold Brew Teas

These cold brew iced teas are lightly sparkling, caffeine free, and lightly sweetened — to the point that a 12 oz bottle offers only 25 calories. Funded in part by Brad Pitt, the line is available in at least five different flavors, including a variety pack.

Enroot Cold Brew Tea Strawberry Lavender Rosemary Tulsi – Tulsi is a member of the mint family, by the way. Designed as a relaxation tea, this mild offering sees its strawberry and minty elements the most prominent elements in the mix, with a gentle tea leaf note giving it some earthiness. The floral and herbal elements implied by the product name don’t really resonate, save for a hint of perfume on the finish. B

Enroot Cold Brew Tea Peach Hibiscus Jasmine Green Tea – Starts off mild, but the hibiscus eventually works its way to the forefront of the tea, offering a floral-fruity character that builds as you get further into the experience. Light peach notes on the back end give it a little hint of sweetness. B+

Enroot Cold Brew Tea Apple Lemon Cayenne Yerba Mate – Note the 30mg of caffeine here. Juicy apple melds well with the up-front black tea note, while the spritz of lemon is very light. You won’t notice the cayenne influence except as a slightly scratchy character on the back of the throat, which is never unpleasant and which actually perks up an otherwise quiet experience. B+

Enroot Cold Brew Mango Turmeric Ginger Guayusa – Another higher caffeine expression, the combination of tropical mango, ginger, and a little spicy turmeric works well — and in roughly those proportions. Probably my favorite of the bunch, this expression is a little juicier and more flavorful than the others, with lingering tiki notes. A-

Enroot Cold Brew Raspberry Mint White Peony Tea – One of the more straightforward flavors in this lineup, with raspberry and mint working well in tandem, just barely sweet as the finish evolves to showcase the floral tea notes. Could use a touch more sweetener to perk the fruit up a bit better. B
