Review: High Camp Highball Shaker
High Camp makes a pretty cool travel flask, and recently it expanded its repertoire to include a natural addendum: a shaker perfect for outdoor environs. Unlike the partially magnetically sealed flask, the High Camp Highball Shaker includes three components that all screw together, making for a higher-grade seal. The components includes a 20 ounce vessel, double-walled for maximum insulation; a strainer unit — fully open on one side, strainer on the other, so you can control ice output; and a lid. If you don’t want the strainer or want to save a little space, the lid can be connected directly to the primary vessel.
The system works great. A shaker full of ice doesn’t transmit even the slightest amount of chill to the walls, and as long as you screw everything together tightly, it doesn’t leak a bit. I was unsure about the half-open/half-shaker system, but I had no trouble using it to control the flow of liquid and solid ice from the shaker. In a pinch you can even put ingredients in through the open part without having to disassemble it completely — especially if you’re trying to conserve ice because, you know, you’re in the woods.
This is a luxe shaker that won’t replace a traditional Boston style setup for most, but outdoorsy types will likely find this every bit as capable as those products named after a certain irascible snowman. Available in 3 finishes.
