Review: NV Cavas of Bella Conchi
Bella Conchi’s Cavas are affordable — but a bit hard to find in the U.S. We tried all three of the operation’s nonvintage offerings. Thoughts follow.
NV Bella Conchi Cava Brut Seleccion – Bright lemon, pear, and quince lead the way on this iconic and effusive Cava, which fades to showcase notes of vanilla and spice as it develops on the tongue. Creamy, with some guava on the finish. B+ / $13
NV Bella Conchi Cava Brut Rose – Not especially floral, this presents with classic Brut Cava notes of pears and a light touch of peach. Mild but rather doughy on the palate, with notes of pastry cream and a lemony finish. Was hoping for more classic “rose” character here but never quite found it. B / $13
NV Bella Conchi Cava Brut Reserva – Lots of similarity with the Brut Seleccion here, though a bit bolder and fruitier up front, then a more evident saline character as it builds toward the finish. Lemon curd and stronger vanilla notes on the fade-out. Not overwhelmingly “better” than the Seleccion, but definitely richer. B+ / $15
