Review: D’usse Cognac VSOP

d'usse cognac

This new Cognac is being launched by Bacardi and endorsed by Jay-Z. The package is one of the snazziest I’ve seen in a long time, and the name, pronounced “dew-say,” is exotic enough to pique anyone’s interest.

Produced by a 220-year-old Cognac house, Otard, D’usse is a premium-priced VSOP but is intended mainly as a mixer.

That’s a good idea, actually. There’s so much boozy alcohol on this that it takes quite a while to blow off. Once it does, D’usse’s VSOP leaves behind a relatively modest profile: Wood, raisins, orange, with a finish that recalls a few baking spices, particularly nutmeg.

That all sounds pretty tasty, but there’s just so much rawness in this spirit that the sweeter, more delicate notes have trouble muscling through. This is a brandy that needs much more time simmering down in cask to show its true promise. Until then, yeah, it’s a mixer.

80 proof.

I just purchased a bottle from my local beverage store and tried some over ice last night. I found it to be very enjoyable in this form. I will try a shot as a mixer and see how that goes. It was a very nice dicovery.

Ive been drinking this for a couple years and hands down its my favorite. From the very shot to last in the bottle its so smooth and the taste is mellow with a smooth kick.

This is the second time I have tried it. It has a real nice taste and gives me a good feeling. My neighbor and I tested it against another very popular cognac, D’usse was better by far.

Geezus this D’usse is disgusting. Smells and tastes like lighter fluid, one sip of it made me sick at my stomach and I’m a long time straight brandy drinker. It’s the worst brandy I’ve ever tasted, bar none. I guess I’ll have to use it for charcoal starter, it’s not fit for human consumption, geez, yuck. Beware !

What?! Lol! D’usse is cognac, not brandy…. Stick with the sugary trash liquor. I’m curious as to what you think of Henessey… You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about.

Cognac is a type of brandy. All Cognacs are brandies.
