Review: 2019 Granzaban Albarino Limousin and Veigalobos
We’ve covered the wines of Bodegas Granbazan at least once before. This Spanish producer has a tight focus on albarino, and today we look at two different wines made from the iconic grape, both from the 2019 vintage — and both luxe bottlings.
2019 Granbazan Limousin Albarino Rias Baixas – A very unique bottle conceals a very traditional albarino, big with notes of sweet mango custard, lemon curd, and hints of vanilla, giving the wine even more of a sweet underbelly. Some florals emerge late in the game, but it’s hard to shake much from the tropical core here. B+ / $38
2019 Granbazan Veigalobos Albarino Rias Baixas – A soft albarino, almost thin at times. revealing notes of mandarin and mango, quince, and subtle lime leaf on the finish. Again a vanilla character rises to prominence as the finish builds, though there’s ample salinity and citrus in the mix to keep things engaging. I prefer the Limousin just a tad more to this one, in part because of this bottling’s absurd wax closure. B+ / $40
