Review: 2021 Trivento Reserve Malbec

Review: 2021 Trivento Reserve Malbec

Today, April 17, is World Malbec Day. Normally there’s a reluctance to partake in marketing-fabricated, unofficial holidays. And even though Malbecs are to be enjoyed all 365/66 days of the year, we’re going all in on it this year and celebrating accordingly.

Made with grapes from vines grown in both the southern (Uco Valley) and northern (Luján de Cuyo) regions of Mendoza, this 100% Malbec has a fruity quality up front evoking black raspberry and plum before a touch of vanilla emerges to provide balance. Oak and spice add more depth to the palate and carry through to a long and satisfying finish full of dark fruit and tobacco leaf.

For those who enjoy the metadata behind their wine, there is also a QR code on the side of the bottle leading to a web portal delivering the wine’s production and provenance in greater technical detail. However, like bonus content for a great movie, this supplemental information shouldn’t deter you from the feature presentation. This is a well-balanced and vibrant bottle, and a steal at twice the asking price.
