Review: 2021 Sebastiani Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon North Coast

Review: 2021 Sebastiani Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon North Coast

Two affordable wine options from Sonoma’s Sebastiani recently dropped. Let’s give them a try.

2021 Sebastiani Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma Valley – A surprisingly tropical expression of sauvignon blanc from Sebastiani, pineapple and coconut notes melding with a strong note of lime leaf. Acidic but backed up by plenty of fruit, this is a far cry from the ultra-grassy sauvignon blancs that Sonoma is known for. Perfect for summer nights, either before or with dinner, provided you can keep it well chilled. B+ / $14

2021 Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon North Coast – Hearty and dense, to be sure, this wine is almost raisiny in body with its aggressive notes of currants and gingerbread spice. Ample time in glass lets things evolve, the tannins tempering a bit as a light cola note comes into view. A touch doughy on the finish, with a reprise of tanned leather and, over time, notes of mint. Not overly complex, but there’s enough going on to merit a cautious buy considering the price. B / $16
