Review: 2019 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Louis M. Martini produces a number of excellent Cabernet Sauvignons from a variety of California regions and at various price points, and every year we’re delighted to see a new vintage of their Napa Valley offering. The 2019 vintage displays much of the character that we enjoy and have come to expect.
It pours dark purple in the glass with a nose that offers generous, bold notes of plum and cassis followed by black licorice. The palate follows suit, showing equal power and a bit more depth. Plum and cassis again come first, but they are balanced by gentle oak tannins and medium acidity which provide a silky mouthfeel. Black licorice and a touch of alcohol-driven booziness appear midpalate, and the finish is fairly long as notes of plum, cassis, and licorice gently disappear. This is classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon from start to finish, and although the price has started to creep up, it continues to hit above its price point.
