Review: 2019 Mascota Vineyards Unanime Signature Cabernet Sauvignon
Whatever the vintage or varietal, red wines from Mendoza-based Mascota tend to lean in one direction: big and lively. Their sublabel, Unanime, and this Cabernet proves no exception to the rule.
Based on the nose, one would be reasonably forgiven for assuming this was a Malbec if handed a glass free from contextual clues. Loads of dark cherry and pepper right out of the bottle, with baking spice following suit within a few minutes of arrival and a few solid swirls in the glass. Layers of vanilla, blackberry, and strawberry are immediately present on the palate with velvet tannins and ample acidity supporting an herbaceous finish. It’s an elegant wine with just enough complexity to keep it engaging long after the grilled veggies have left your plate.
