Review: Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C924 (September 2024)

We’re finally catching up with the final bottle of Larceny Barrel Proof for 2024, C924, which hit in September of last year. The new labeling we announced early last year is now in effect.

Larceny C924 is a solid, if decidedly wood-forward, expression of this now-classic wheated bourbon, really doubling down on an aromatic agenda that prioritizes toasty char, cinnamon, cloves, and bbq burnt ends. The smoldering barrel notes give way just a bit late in the game to show off some dark chocolate and a hint of mint, but it’s a long time coming, so plan to let this one rest in the glass for longer than you otherwise might.

On the palate, there’s a clearer sweetness that approaches burnt marshmallows and vanilla caramel, touched with a light grind of citrus peel. Chocolate arrives late in the game, complemented by notes of toasty butter cookies, Nutella, and a small grind of black pepper. The heat here isn’t unnoticeable, and water tames some of the more fiery elements that ring the edges. This helps evoke more of a salted caramel note on the finish, the maritime element increasingly distinct with the more water you add to it.

Fun stuff, and at this price, it makes it easy to see why Larceny Barrel Proof has become such a fan favorite of late.

125.1 proof.
