Review: Real Russian Vodka
I once heard a story about a guy who had trademarked “Ice Cold” Vodka. Ice Cold was the brand name. Makes sense. Basically the same thing Miller did with the Lite brand.
Real Russian Vodka is either brilliant branding or incredibly misleading or both. It is made from an “authentic family recipe born over 100 years ago in Russia”… in Gurnee, Illinois.
I’ll let you draw your own conclusions from all of that, while I wax about what this stuff actually tastes like.
For a supposed 100-year-old recipe, Real Russian Vodka has a very modern profile. Sweet on the nose, there are hints of grapefruit and tangerine but otherwise it’s clean. The body features lots of sweetness, and hints more at chocolate than those citrus notes alluded to on the nose. Nothing much in the way of medicinal notes, the hallmark of Eastern European vodkas.
Overall, it’s good enough — simple, but quite sugary — though nothing I’d classify as Russian.
