Review: Sugarlands Appalachian Sippin’ Cream Strawberry Dream, Pumpkin Spice Latte, and Eggnog
Sugarlands Distilling Co., in the Great Smoky Mountains, now proclaims to be the most visited distillery in America. It’s also moved well past its flavored moonshines, now producing a flavored rum, whiskey (review coming soon), and numerous cream liqueurs with names like Electric Orange Sippin’ Cream. There are now six members of the Sippin’ Cream universe on the market, the three most recent being the expressions we’re looking at today.
Tread with caution. We’re not making these flavors up.
All are bottled at 40 proof.
Sugarlands Appalachian Sippin’ Cream Strawberry Dream Cream Liqueur – Looks like Pepto-Bismol, tastes, well, not unlike Pepto-Bismol. Which I kind of gravitate to, in a nostalgic sort of way. The strawberry is a light touch here atop vanilla and a general ethanol overtone. Nothing too earth-shaking, but I could see how this could work atop the right type of cheesecake. C
Sugarlands Appalachian Sippin’ Cream Pumpkin Spice Latte Cream Liqueur – Released seasonally for the winter months, this ruddy rendition of the Starbucks special is heavy on the ginger, which gives the nose more of a gingersnap cookie character while the palate is closer to an Irish cream, with more of a vanilla kick. Rustic, but not unpleasant. B-
Sugarlands Appalachian Sippin’ Cream Eggnog Cream Liqueur – Full disclosure: I really dislike eggnog, and this rendition of the holiday classic doesn’t do much for me. It’s got a vanilla malted milk shake character on the nose, with a slightly lemony, nutty, vanilla-heavy palate. Not particularly eggy, but I can sense the huevos in the mix, at least. All told, it’s better than I expected, but eggnog fanatics may very well gravitate to this in a way that I simply am unable to. C [BUY IT NOW FROM CASKERS]
