Review: Tippy Cow Peppermint Bark Rum Cream

Review: Tippy Cow Peppermint Bark Rum Cream

Tippy Cow is a line of rum-based liqueurs that includes flavors like Vanilla Soft Serve and Shamrock Mint. (It’s made and bottled by the same company that bottles RumChata — Midwest Custom Bottling.) For the holidays, a seasonal variant is here: Peppermint Bark, and we gave this curiosity the Drinkhacker treatment. Thoughts follow.

As truth in labeling goes, Tippy Cow Peppermint Bark is right on the money. While it’s the color of chocolate milk (not white-and-pink like real peppermint bark), it does offer instant aromas and flavors of chocolate and mint — with more mint notes than I was expecting, actually. It’s sweet, but far from overbearing.

Lightly creamy — a bit thin at times — it tastes like an Andes mint that has melted from being in your pocket all day. There’s no real rum influence to speak of, but then again, there’s no noticeable alcohol on the palate, either.

Ultimately, for holiday tipples this may not be a mind-blower, but it’s a completely credible offering that feels perfect for the season. I had no trouble polishing off a glass of it, anyway.

Update: As of 2020, Tippy Cow Peppermint Bark is no longer being produced.

28 proof.

I found it in Fry’s (Kroger’s). I looked for it again after Christmas, and I didn’t find it. Good luck!

I’m not a drinker 2 or 3 a year. But this! The balance of alcohol is the best. The peppermint is great.

I love this stuff, only trouble I can not find it anywhere. The other flavors do not appeal to me.

I went looking for it too. The largest liquor store in my area (SW Chicago suburbs) said it was replaced by the RumChata line which was easily found. I’m trying to confirm that both are made by the same company. Can someone confirm this? If so, is the product the same as the Tippy Cow line? Thanks!!

I spoke to Bob Kopach of RumChata, who said: Tippy Cow Peppermint Bark is no longer being made — though can still be found on shelves in random areas of the country. It was produced and sold by by Midwest Custom Bottling. There might be some confusion because Midwest Custom Bottling bottles [but does not produce] RumChata.
