Review: Tangent 2018 Albarino and NV Canned Rose
Tangent is a brand that is “an exploration of alternative white varietals which thrive in cool climate environments.” The Edna Valley operation lays claim to one of the largest Albarino vineyards outside of Spain.
Thoughts on two new releases follow.
2018 Tangent Albarino Paragon Vineyard Edna Valley – Bright and fruity, this wine is a vibrant exploration of gooseberry, pineapple, and coconut — intensely sweet on first blush, then slowly fading into a lightly sour, apricot-fueled character. The finish doesn’t quite find balance, heavy on a tart but tropical character. B / $17
NV Tangent Rose Paragon Vineyard Edna Valley – A blend of Grüner Veltliner, Albariño, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Grenache, made exclusively for cans. This rose is brighter than your typical California bottling — er, canning — its floral and strawberry notes tempered by acidity and a lemony rush. The florals fight back hard on the finish, which eventually gives way to a somewhat doughy consistency. Definitely not bad for a canned offering. B+ / $48 per 6 pack
