Review: J.T. Meleck Louisiana Vodka
J.T. Meleck Louisiana Vodka is a grain-to-glass product made from rice, which is something Louisiana knows a lot about. Vodka? It’s less of a staple around these parts, so let’s see what Meleck can do with this tricky spirit.
Boldy grainy and a bit on the funky side, the vodka offers aromas of sesame seed and a touch of white pepper. The palate surprises with a slight sweetness and a light oatmeal character, touched with a hint of brown butter. The finish brings both worlds together, a chewy number that offers notes of toasty grain and some sweet coconut — though the focus remains pretty squarely on an earthy, burlap character that feels more white whiskeylike than vodkaesque.
Ultimately it’s a bit wild as far as vodka goes, but it makes for a fair enough (and reasonably affordable) mixer.

Excellent on its own over ice I love it in a martini and a screwdriver. Although most vodka is distilled to had a neutral taste and nose this one like my wife said is unique in that like a good whiskey you know you’re enjoying something unique. So glad there are distillers in Louisiana making something other than rum. We have an abundance of sugar cane so rum is not a stretch. If you want a vodka that has a flavor unique from others this one is for you.
