Review: 10 Barrel Brewing Pilsner and Real Good Summer Ale

Bend, Oregon-based 10 Barrel Brewing has plenty of refreshing beers available for summer sipping, including this pair, which are as straightforward as they come.

10 Barrel Brewing Pilsner – Crisp and clean, there’s no mistaking what you’re getting with this dry, refreshing pilsner — cracker dry, lightly malty, and touched with notes of fragrant yeast. Fans of straightforward lagers will find this a perfect example of the style, though there’s nothing about it that really elevates or detracts from hot-summer-day expectations. 5% abv. B+ / $11 per six-pack

10 Barrel Brewing Real Good Summer Ale – The name don’t lie. This partnership with Simms Fishing supports Trout Unlimited, a river-centric fishing charity. The result is a limited edition kolsch-style beer that is ultra-crisp with malt and bright with a decidedly slight hoppiness. Champagne yeast gives the beer a lovely dryness, which pairs well with the lightly floral notes on the finish. 5% abv. A- / $NA per six-pack
